Important Tips for Effective Signage for Your Business or Office

Blog

Effective signage is needed for any business or office, otherwise customers may easily walk or drive right by your establishment without noticing it. The right signage will ensure you're noticed and can also impel people to walk through the front doors. It's important for any business owner to note that it's not enough to simply put up a sign and expect foot traffic into a business, but signage must be effective to be engaging. Note a few important tips that are often overlooked by business owners and managers.

1. Choose the right material for your sign

The material of your sign is important because it should reflect your business. Plastic signs can be very durable and functional and are good for signage right outside an office suite, but you might also opt for wood or metal. Wood can evoke an old-fashioned feeling and metal can make a business seem more modern and industrial.

If you do choose plastic for your signage, you might opt for a color that will work well for your business. Primary colors might be good for a business that works with children such as a pediatrician's office, whereas green can be a good choice for a gardening center. Laser engraving makes it easy to create a sign of any material, so be sure you consider your choices rather than opting for a dull sign that may not attract the eyes of customers.

2. Be careful of your lettering

One common mistake made by business owners when it comes to signage is using lettering or a font that is overly ornate and fancy. They may reason that it looks more special than plain block lettering, but it can also be more difficult to read. Your sign will only be effective if it gets a point across to customers, whether it's your business name or a certain special you're running. If customers cannot read the sign because the lettering is too fancy, then the sign is outright pointless. Choose a lettering style that fits your business but which is easy to read by customers even from a distance.

3. Light the sign

You don't need a neon sign to have adequate lighting. A plastic or other type of sign can be lighted from above or below, and this can actually make your sign look very unique. If you choose laser engraving, the edges cut by the laser can provide a natural border for your lettering when you light the sign, and in turn the words stand out and are noticed by potential customers.

Using Signs to Educate and Inform Children

Hello, my name is Nicole, and I spent the happiest years of my life as a preschool teacher. In that role, I learned how to inspire children, how to present them with consistency and how to catch their attention. In addition to all of the tactile and motor-related activities we did in my preschool, I also used a lot of signs and posters. Though trial, error and extra research, I learned what works when it comes to signs. In this blog, I plan to write about years' worth of firsthand experiences and behind-the-scenes research. My hope is that my experience helps you to design and find signs of your classroom, regardless of the age of children with which you are working. Please explore and enjoy my blog on signs and education!
