There is so much information online about travelling activities for older children but not too much for toddlers. Along with toys I have decided to gather up learning activities for the kids. Here are some ideas:

  • Buy a jumbo activity book the Dollar Tree, it will be cheaper than printing off pages online so a letter and shape book for my two year old and a book with animals for my one year old and new crayons along with a bag full of toys, books and snacks should keep them busy for awhile.
  • Finger puppets, I made some monkey puppets for “5 little monkeys jumping on the bed” and “5 little monkeys swinging on the tree”.
  • “What do you see?” – My two year old will enjoy yelling out the colours of cars and trees and other things we see. Or make it more difficult and tell your child to find a red car or find a river.
  • “What Makes That Sound?” My kids love sounds. Saying what says “choo-choo” or “oink-oink” will be fun for them to answer.
  • Bubbles – get some little party favour bottles.
  • Kid Songs CD’s, Classical Music

Aquire a variety of different coloured eggs and scatter all the halves on the floor or table and have your children match the colours together. For children who have not yet learned how to match colours just start out with a few colours and put the matching colours close to eachother. As your childs matching skills advance add more colours and mix the eggs up more. For older toddlers and preschoolers you may want to try plastic eggs with patterns.

My little girl who just turned two loves this game. After she makes a match we yell out what the egg colour is.
