I am amazed at how many educational websites will give parents and teachers ideas about teaching preschool children to safely cross the road by themselves!!!! Most children are simply not mature enough to cross the road by themselves before the age of 10, I would say 8 at the very youngest.

Using a paper bag have your child make a puppet of themselves. Use yarn for hair, crayons to draw facial features and clothes made from colored paper and or fabric. If you are doing this with a group of children you can point out the similarities and differences between the children.

Have the children cut out of magazines things they like or that remind them of themselves. Make a collage out of those pictures.

Have your child make a poster or collage of pictures of family members and things that the family enjoys doing together. This would also be fun for the family to do together.
