Going On A Rhyme Hunt
Teaching your children to understand how to rhyme is one of the best ways to prepare your preschooler to learn how to read. Remember to explain that for a word to rhyme the last sound has to sound the same.
Choose a variety of different objects around your house/classroom and walk around with your child/ren pointing out the objects you have chosen and encourage them to tell you what rhymes with that word. You could also have two rhyming objects close to each other to make it easier for young children such as a mat and a baseball bat or show them a chair and have the children point to their hair.
Another version of the game you can play is give your children pictures of objects and have them find rhyming objects around the house or classroom.
