Block Building Activity

Here is a fun play activity for your child. Build simple objects with blocks and have your child copy what you built. For toddlers start with stacking two or three blocks on top of each other and as your child is able to copy very simple designs gradually move onto more complicated designs that require more blocks. You can also have your child follow a pattern with different shapes and or colours.

Teaching Children 2 – 5 About The Water Cycle

Teach your toddlers and preschoolers about the water cycle by playing a puddle watch game.

On a rainy day, wait for the rain to stop then take your child outside to find a puddle on the side walk or driveway and draw or have your child draw a line a couple of inches around the puddle.

Take your child outside to look at the puddle several times throughout the day and talk about the puddle becoming smaller and the water cycle.

This activity will help your child learn communication skills, thinking skills, size (larger, smaller) as well as learning about the water cycle.

I have to give my two year old credit for coming up with this game. I caught her making up this little game to teach her one year old sister to count – How cute!!!

Hold up one finger, have your child hold up one finger, touch fingers and say ‘one’.
Hold up two fingers, have child hold up two fingers, touch fingers and say ‘two’.
Hold up three fingers, have child hold up three fingers, touch fingers and say ‘three’.
Hold up four fingers, have child hold up four fingers, touch fingers and say ‘four’.
Hold up five fingers, have child hold up five fingers, say Give Me Five and give each other a high five!

This is such a good use of senses to teach counting. Child will learn by sight, sound and touch.
